Cockpit

Hello and welcome to my fourth part of my P-38J Lightning review. This review we will be putting together the cockpit.

The painting was slightly easy. The only difficultly I had was all the different wires on the cockpit floor.
The paints required for the first part of the cockpit are:
Aluminum
Interior Green
Light Gray
Gloss Black
Flat Black
Olive Drab
Silver

The gluing was very simple.

Here is a photo of the model so far.

Overall so far no major difficulties, but I would suggest doing the base coat first then adding the paint for the other items on that same part.
See you next review.

P-38J Lightning Internal Review

Hello and welcome to the second part of my P-38J Lightning review. This review will be over the internal box (parts, decals, and instructions).  Here is a photo of the box as you open it up.

Parts:
Here is the black and clear molded parts.

The main bag has all the parts that have no color molded on them. On the box it does say it is suppose to be molded in silver, but they are just normal plastic color. One thing to watch out for is that there is a loose piece in the bag.

The designers did a good job of adding rivets on all the surfaces.

There is 118 parts in total:
Black:36
Clear: 18
Gray: 64

Pros:
Liked the rivets on the parts
Liked how the parts were detailed.
Cons:
Disliked how there was a small loose part ready to get lost.
Disliked how the parts were not molded in silver like the box said.

Instructions:

The instructions are very good. They have nice background of the P-38J Lightning. The tips section has some very good tips. I like how they have the list of parts and what they are in the plane.

They also have sections about where to sand.

Instructions pro's and con's:

Pro's:
Liked how they had the names of the parts.
Liked how they told you were to sand.

Con's:
Disliked how they didn't tell you what color to paint the outside of Major Bong's version and the Pathfinder.

Decals:

The decal's are waterslide decals.

Pro's:
Liked that they are organized by plane.

Con's:
None

Overall they organized the parts well. Decals and instructions were very good.
Thank you for reading and see you next review.

P-38J Lightning Box Review

Hello and welcome to my review of the P-38J Lightning model by Revell. This first part of the review will be a general overview of the box and the different models you can make and comparative pricing.
Here is a list of pricing from some of  the major retailers:
Revell: $19.95
Amazon: $19.95
Hobby Lobby: $18.99 (with 40% coupon it comes to $11.39)

The three models that come with the kit are the:
P-38J-15-LO Lightning Fighter-Bomber "Marge" flown by Major Richard Bong
P-38L-5-LO  Lightning Night Fighter "Night Lightning"
P-38J-15-LO Lightning Droop Snoot Pathfinder "Bomba-Dear"

The features of the Model are:
Length: 9 1/4"
Wingspan: 12 11/16"
Number of Parts: 118
Molded in: Silver (The parts are actually normal plastic color, will get into that more when I do internal review) Also molded in black and clear.
Decals: Waterslide

Paints Required (Will get into paints more when I get to that part of the review):
Aluminum
Brown
Flat Black
Flesh
Gloss Black
Green
Interior Green
Light Gray
Medium Blue
Olive Drab
Red
Silver
Steel
Tan

The box art is very good. It realistically depicts a dogfight between Major Bong's P-38 and a Zero.
I love how the artist added in the bullet holes in the plane.
The only con about the box art is that the planes downed decal is not the same as on the actual model.

Pros and Cons on the box:

 Pro's:
Like how they give the paints you need right on the box.
Like how they had the photos of the different models you could do.

 Con's:
Disliked how the Photo on the side of the box was not an accurate description of the final product for Major Bong's plane.

Overall the box was very good. Especially liked having the paints required on the box itself so you  know what paints you need before you buy. Thank you for reading and see you in my next part of this review.
